Satin/Silk/Charmeuse Wedding gowns?
I tried on wedding dresses for the first time today. I fell in love with a charmeuse gown primarily because of how luxurious the fabric felt. Any thoughts on satin/silk/charmeuse dresses compared to others?
“Weird” I love your description of being horrified at the other bridal fabics…I was too! The gown I like is charmeuse…I guess I wasn;t so sure of the difference. It’s Maggie Sottero “Jewel”. Can I ask what yours is? And what month is the wedding? Is this material still summer appropriate?
Silk is a luxurious fabric, but it can have ALL kinds of different textures, from very rough to very smooth. Satin and Charmeuse are actual weaves — you can have silk satin and you can have silk charmeuse (also silk shantung, etc) but you can also have polyester satin and polyester charmeuse.
I LOVE charmeuse and I rather detest satin. My dress is the only charmeuse dress that I could find and I, too, chose it for it’s luxurious, lightweight feel. I liked the design too, but I mostly liked the fabric. I’d always dreamed of having a dress that felt that good under my fingers and I was a little horrified at the other “bridal fabrics” that most dresses are made of. It seemed like such a cheater way of dressing up — a fabric that looks good, but feels awful!
