Hollywood Gower Neighborhood Association

Meeting Report for May 26, 2004

Clean up report:

Missy outlined some of the events of the clean up day where the neighbors cleaned Carlos at Vista Del Mar. Bob has been keeping it very clean ever since. The trash hasn’t been coming so much from the homeless but rather from the employees of the Pantages Theatre.

Saturday June 26th – we will clean up the east end of Carlos from Bronson to Tamarind.

Security Camera Program

Jordan re: Cameras:   Officer Alan Hamilton is heading up the placements of the cameras. After the first test, three people were caught (one got away). The program looks like it will be a success. We are not the only group that is trying to be included in the program. When Alan comes back, he will be calling together all the groups that are interested and see what the best method of fundraising will be. Jordan shared that Garcetti says there was a 95% drop in graffiti where this program was put in place. Eastwood Coalition needs to be included in the discussion about fundraising and cameras for the community.

Jordan is putting up an accordion gate to keep the kids from the alcove.

Bahli’s Market – Liquor License update:

Jordan spoke to Abdul at Bahli’s Market – he will be at our next meeting. He will write a letter to our group stating what his intentions will be regarding security guards for when he gets his beer and wine license.

Jessica mentioned that things are better since the ten-minute parking has been put in place in front of Bahli’s market.

O utreach

Mike and Missy expressed pleasure with the core representative group that is consistently showing up at our meetings. Jessica a will distribute flyers for the cleanup – Fran will create and duplicate them.

L.A. Youth Network was in attendance and may be helping us with the clean up. They distributed resource cards to us.
