Coalition Meeting
Report November 4, 2003 |

Meeting Schedule
discussed. Some believe that quarterly meetings are more appropriate. Some
believe that Eastwood should meet at least every other month to stay
connected with one another. This organization will be dark in December and
meet again at the regular date and time (First Tuesday of each month) and
discuss the matter again. Meanwhile, Jered will work on a flyer and
helping with outreach so that more people will be in attendance in the
January 6, 2004 meeting. Jered will get a flyer to Al to post in his
building. Ann Marie will make phone calls to members to encourage their
participation. Tony will distribute to the neighbors on Wilton Place. K.C.
will continue to distribute to his street – Gramercy as well as Garfield
Place. Keh (Thai Community
Council) gave a report on plans to build a Whole Foods store where the
three lots on Garfield now provide parking. She heard this from Rene
Weitzer in Councilman LaBonge’s office. She will contact the developer
to see when they will be providing an open house for the neighborhood.
Catherine Zarate wants to know what they plan to do regarding security and
clean up in order to maintain their store and keep the community clean. KC told of the final
installation of the Lighted Pedestrian Crosswalk at St. Andrews and
Hollywood Blvd. Fran gave the history of the city’s reluctance to
provide crossing guards or a light due to what the city considered a close
proximity to the light on Western as well as the light on Wilton.
Franklin-Hollywood Hills Community Council generated a document to DOT and
the City Council office asking for parity – FHHCC insisted that
Hollywood Blvd and St. Andrews be treated the same as Sunset Blvd and St.
Andrews which has both a light and a crossing guard. Shortly thereafter,
the crossing guard was added and plans went into gear to provide the
light. Sprint Appeal: WE WON!
The neighbors showed up. The letter that Josh wrote along with the many
other letters were very affective. The Area Planning Commissioners were
strong in their suggestion to Sprint that they meet with the neighborhood
extensively next time. Sprint made no attempt to meet with the neighbors
in or around the building that they proposed to install their antennae.
Josh told the commissioners that, had Sprint met with the neighbors, they
still would not have been given permission to install their facility on
that building but that the neighborhood organization would have assisted
Sprint in finding a more suitable and acceptable location. Fire Station 82: The
Prop. F Administrative Oversight Committee sent out last months minutes
that state their ability to purchase Florentine Gardens and their plans to
identify that as their final location choice for the new Fire Station 82.
We await receipt of the minutes from their meeting this week to see if
that action was taken officially. Clean up projects will be
undertaken in the future. Ann Marie and Tony have a
problem neighbor with loud partying every week. Fran suggested they
include Bill Kysella (City Attorney’s Neighborhood Prosecutor) in the
discussion as he has ability to gather agencies together to resolve these
kinds of issues. Catherine suggested that the senior lead officer become
involved in this situation. Pierre mentioned that
cars are now allowed to park overnight on both sides of Hollywood Blvd. As
a result, no street sweeping occurs and the street is real messy. Ann
Marie will find the phone number and contact name of the person in the
city in charge of Street Sweeping. It was mentioned that this issue
includes both CD4 and CD13 as well as the Department of Street Services,
Department of Transportation (parking) and maybe Parking Enforcement. We
will have to work on this from many angles to find a resolution. Perhaps
Bill Kysella can help with this as well. Catherine announced Thursday, November 13, 2003 – Free Flu Shots at the church (Seventh-Day Adventist Church 1711 Van Ness at Hollywood Blvd.) from 9AM – 12noon. Those that are allergic to eggs or shellfish should not participate. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 |
